RetroArch Wii/Gamecube Releases (v1.0.0.2)

Thanks again man!

BTW, as far as SNES, NES & PCE cores are concerned, would a customization that simply points to a specific folder for each one possible? Would this change be saved?

I’m not sure, I’d rather not change anything else. There’s already an issue with the cores I modified; since they have their own .cfg, the original retroarch.cfg gets ignored so when you change core and exit boot.dol will still look for only one .cfg(retroarch.cfg) and the last core used will always be the same unless you manually edit it. Though you could use hbc to load the cores directly. Hopefully the next update addresses these issues.

We have successfully ran Mortal Kombat 1/2/3/Ultimate with MAME 0.78 on RetroArch Wii - unfortunately, it is not really worth it to release. It runs at 45fps or so with the DCS speed hack - I think the blitting code is really slow with the weird resolution the Mortal Kombat games run at since it shouldn’t be this slow really.

Oh well - at least it is full speed on PS3 (and I suspect 360 once I get down to porting it to that).

Dear SquarePusher, GREAT NEWS (and bad news at same time…)

However, I wonder - Mame 0.78 core will be not released due only to Mortal Kombat issues? What about the whole MAME universe that can be run with this core? There are many games that does not run on FinalBurnAplha core. Raiden is a very important example…

Thanks for your attention, Sire. Cospefogo.

Yeah I am not too pushed about the Mortal Kombat games as I have decent versions on SNES emulator etc. I hope the MAME 0.78 core is still released for Wii as, like Cospefogo said, I would love to play many of the other arcade classics on that core that I am missing from FBA.

If there is no MAME 0.78 for Wii, then the only changes for the next release would be per core config files and speed hacks for VBA-NEXT?

This, and only this… FBA is great, but some games are missing, like games from Irem,Taito, Dataeast etc. Stuff like Raiden, Hammerin Harry, In the Hunt, Xain Sleena, Sly Spy etc. We should not just write out the Mame core cause a couple of games don’t run fullspeed.

Besides, Wii owners desperate for arcade versions of MK2 & 3 can play Midway Collection vol. 2 on GC via devolution (and use the CC if they wish so) or Dios Mios .

Yes, I agree 100% with what everyone else is saying. I’m fine with not having mortal kombat games, its all the TONS of other smaller/older games that mame runs that im far more interested in. PLEASE consider releasing this core for wii so that we can play those games. And thank you for all your great work thus far.

Ah. Kind of sad. Even so you managed to get pretty close, AFAIK MK games ran at 53.7 fps on mame and arcade. Great job guys.

NINJA EDIT: BTW Im running into some issues using SNES9X core, games run at what seems 60fps BUT when I scroll it seems like the screen loses some fps then rearranges itself. have anyone experiencced that?

I noticed in DKC3 midway in the first level, there is slight delay in SNES core (as well as the standalone SNES9X Wii) midway through the level that is not in the VC release, but it is so momentrary that it is really really negligible… Nothing worthwhile, games play great.

Here’s to hoping we hear something about the upcoming release soon

I think you’re talking about the point where you cross the ropes over the barrel-guys. I can’t comment on the VC release, but the SNES cart slows down there as well.

Well the stutter I reported actually happens in ALL games, grab for example… B.O.B wich has quick sidesrolling at 60fps and scroll from side to side and you will see it clearly. Same as Super Mario World can be used for that test. (I used custom ratio, havent tested on default ratio cause I banner bricked my Wii last week )

BTW I disengaged V Sync and the controller response improved by a small bit, almost negligible (but for me is noticeable but nothing emu breaking).

Also another thing, in the current MAME core, Blood Warriors (Kaneko) doesnt start at all. Any chance that this could get fixed in the new release?

LAST question (for today hehe) CPS3 is out of the question on Wii? I know that rom sizes are an issue but SFIII NG and 2ndI are well under 30mb each if I recall well. Does it has the power to emulate CPS3?

Thanks again!

I see none of that stuttering you speak of. The audio and video is running at 60/60, some games will not like Kirby’s Dream Land 3 (the SA-1 chip can be nasty at times), but as for that, I experience nothing like it on the TV I use. Have you only tried one TV or any others? The TV’s game mode? AFAIK, RetroArch Wii shouldn’t have those issues.

The Wii doesn’t have the RAM for CPS3 without virtual memory.

And virtual memory schemes are godawful in terms of performance. I don’t even want to go there.

Doesn’t help either that the SD card is slow and so is USB2.0 really (if we were to rely on that).

Quick question guys. I remember when this emu was on GBATEMP there was a link for a fix to snes9x. For some games that were stuttering if I remember correctly… IS this fixed on this release or is the fix included in here or something? (im asking cause the link for the Wii version says 0.9.9 fix1) Thanks in advance Also, you should consider making it clearer which version is for NGC and which is for Wii. Cause the links as they currently are appear to be for the “regular” version and for the “fixed” version only. NO difference in platform.

I just love how my help goes un-answered

I’m playing on RetroArch TG16 on the Gamecube

Seems like on the Contoller going nuts like if I press any button on the GC or the SNES Pad, Bonk will freak out like Auto-Turbo Left to Right, Tried it with a NES Pad same deal

In Street Fighter 2 CE - When I go in the Option, Every button I press go between 6 and 2 Button Mode

In Game - Some Buttons Respond some not

Like in Bonk it goes from 2B to 6B -

Anyone have any issues on this?

I had the same freaking controller problem on RA Wii. PCE Engine! Only PCEngine!

I was using a original SNES PAD through retro-zone GC adpater plugged in my Wii GC controller port. I did give it up to use the SNES pad on PCE and returned to standard wii motes.

This bug is verified, but it is unsolved until now. (I think)!

=)

Sorry, I do most of the forum responding but I know extremely little about the Wii port and absolutely zero about the GC port, so I don’t have anything to tell you, unfortunately.

You can try askot’s unofficial build to see if the issue is resolved there, but that’s about all I can suggest at the moment: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1092

Just tested that unofficial build with the VBA speedup, it’s pretty awesome; though I would like to say that while Sonic Advance 2 is smoother it still dips at bosses and the Ice Paradise level, it’s not really fullspeed all the way. Same for Sonic Advance 3.
