RetroArch Wii/Gamecube Releases (v1.0.0.2)

scratch that, I figured it out, you have to be in-game to change them

Glad you figured it out

Great stuff, Iā€™ll download now and check it out. Is there a changelog detailing whatā€™s new for Wii in this release? Normally the first post is updated. Looking forward to checking it out, hope the MAME core has been included.

Edit: Just trying it out here, FB Alpha Core doesnā€™t work and requires a hard restart. If you choose this core you have to delete the config files as RA remembers the last core and tries to load it on start up so you will have a black screen until you do so.

I have no idea how per core configs work, I make changes but they seem to revert back i.e. path options etc.

I know I raised these next two 6 months ago for 0.9.9. but will do again: I am not seeing the 6 button pad support for the PC Engine that I mentioned after 0.9.9, how do I select this? Restarting RA while having two players swaps player 1 to player 2 still.

Choosing CPS1 core it says Load Content (FB Alpha) and FB Alpha v0.2.97.30 at the bottom of the screen instead of CPS1 like it used to do, makes it hard to know which core is selected.

No MAME core, will this ever make it to Wii?

First a big thank you for the new release!!

Here is what I detected with the Wii FBA core: The full FBA core does not load and writes a FBA_CPS1 config file. The CPS1 core writes correctly a FBA_CPS1 config file but states in RGUI ā€œ1.0.0.0 - FB Alpha v0.2.97.30ā€ instead of ā€œā€¦ FBA CPS1 ā€¦ā€

FBA NEO and FBA CPS2 work correctly.

It appears this new version supports Sengoku 3 on the Neo Geo core! Has anyone tried other larger Neo Geo roms? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWDwIQg ā€¦ ata_player

Hey charco how are ya? To quote toadking

We never confirmed the MAME core for Wii. It would take too much work to get it working on Wii and we will just get complaints that not every game works because games will have to be cut to make it fit into RAM.

MAME might come in the future, but the Wii is just not built for it. I think squarepusher also said that the core would be around 123mb which due to the size would require changing how RA comes bundled with cores to some kind of user input active d/load method or something. Anyway I think itā€™s pretty much a given that itā€™s not a priority so we probably wonā€™t see it anytime soon if at all. However Iā€™m very excited for 1.0.0 and I rather see the team squash any currently introduced bugs as well as old ones such as the 1 and 2 player controller swap on restart. Letā€™s continue to report bugs and wait for the team to flush 'em out of RA.

Wonderful job guys looking forward to the changelog as well as any feedback you have on the new release. Thanks for all the fish

Hey man how are things? Cheers for that info.

As regards the Neo Geo games, tested all the others and none work. Sengoku 3 is 42.7MB zip file, strange how this works yet other roms like Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 and the Last Blade games donā€™t but are 30MB zip files or less. If something could be deduced from this Sengoku 3 fluke it could prove useful for perhaps getting these games to run.

Finally got the new version to boot. Originally I was unzipping retroarch-wii into my apps folder, but I tried unzipping it elsewhere, and then simply copied retroarch-wii into the apps folder on my SD card. Iā€™m not sure why, but it worked. Anyways, out of curiosity, I tried Sengoku 3 on the previous version of Retroarch and it worked. I guess no one ever tried it before. Kinda strange - its not like its a little bit bigger than whatā€™s supposed to boot - its nearly twice the size of Real Bout Special.

Woah!

Boktai is playable!!!

Minor hickup here and there but HAHA FINALLY!!!

Thanks guys!!!

Still, I gotta question. it seems like every SNES emulator, retroarchā€™s core included, cant reproduce well a sound from DKCā€™s level ā€œTanked up troubleā€.

Instead of sounding like a broken glass like the original cartridge, it sounds like a beepingā€¦ any idea why?

I know itā€™s a super-small triviality and nothing important, itā€™s just something that always caught my attention.

Did Rareware used a custom anything for DKC1ā€™s sound?

Well, since FBA Core is not working, I will wait for a fix to then try this update! And I was anxious to see the per-core config featureā€¦ Sad news if it is not working correctly! =/

But, anyway, always thank you for your efforts, SquarePusher and ToadKing!

Yes, the full FBA core is currently not working. Even the previous version (from svn-old) does not work. Iā€™d have to look at this together with ToadKing later if he feels up to it.

Well, those file sizes are a bit of a red herring.

You should compare the total size of all the files inside the archive instead. If you extract Sengoku 3 ZIP for instance - youā€™ll see that the files in total are not really that much bigger than - say - KOF96 - around 47 or 50MB or so. However, if you extract the KOF97 ZIP - you will find that all its data files are 90MB in total - which is much bigger than Sengoku 3 even though the zipped contents of Sengoku 3 are bigger.

So if you want to find out which other ā€˜bigger gamesā€™ you can play with FBA Cores Neo - you should extract all archives and compare the size of the uncompressed files. If the files are 50 or 52MB in total, it should work. If itā€™s 60MB+, it will be too big to fit into Wii RAM.

Anyway, we might investigate virtual memory soon. Main problem is that the example code in FBAXXX is quite a bit out of date compared to the most recent version of FBA so it would require some backporting. And weā€™d have to get familiar with Wii NAND I/O as well eventually I guess because the current implementation would be just reading/writing everything to a page file from SD or USB.

Ah I see, thanks for clarifying that. The possibility of looking into virtual memory is a very welcome one and I would be delighted if you guys were to invest some time in it, I realise the Wii port is not a main priority, but the fact that you are still supporting the platform when all others have left it is commendable. Keep up the great work!

Hey guys, Thanks for new release, playing a couple of GBA games( like Zero mission ect.) at fullspeed without frameskipping on wii was my wet dream, and thatā€™s possible thanks to your efforts. Edit: oh, it turns out there are still some slowdowns and sound cracklings.

I have a little issue, canā€™t configure the buttons on nunchuk, they are working as default but when I tried to swap Z and C I get no response on the button map screen.

Getting a black screen too. Tried some of the fixes posted here but none work. Oh well, Iā€™ll just keep using 0.9.9 I guess.

Just delete everything and start again, works fine.

Be sure to delete the config files, which should be in SD:/Retroarch/

I did that multiple times, never worked.

And when nunchuk is connected, d-pad is getting confused so I canā€™t make a change in the settings. I have to disconnect nunchuk to do that, but when i do, I lost my button mapping.

Not to say your issue isnā€™t worth reporting but, you guys play retro games with a NUNCHUK?!
