RetroArch Wii/Gamecube Releases (v1.0.0.2)

Well,

After all I found a great utility for the PER CORE CONFIG regarding FBA in the 1.0.0.1 release. Here it became —> PER GAME CONFIG! Hell yeah!

This is what I am doing now…

  1. Open RA
  2. Pick FBA Core.
  3. Choose a game with a very different resolution (becomes ugly when played in a regular default size), in this case, CONTRA (Mame/FBA)
  4. Load the game, and go to VIDEO settings.
  5. Set it up to POINT FILTERING, 640x480p
  6. On custom aspect ratio, enter these coordinates/size:

width = “448” height = “560” x = “97” y = “-86”

  1. Save this as New Config File
  2. Play the game.
  3. Exit the game using Restart RetroArch.

Then, open any other game, while the game IS LOADED, make your video configurations, save it, exit.

Next time, when you start RA - FBA Core, simply — FIRST — LOAD THE VERY CONFIG of the game you want, Contra, for example, and then load the game. Wanna change game? While inside Contra, you can LOAD OTHER GAME CONFIG of yours, the emu will restart, and then you pick a new game.

Simple, AND GREAT! I remember the time when people DREAMED about having such feature on First Xbox’s MAME/CoinOps.

Just a remark on the CFGs.

— RA will save the very first config, for the DOL, as .DOL.CFG. This is the CORE config (I think, ha ha, I have not looked into it). — Then, each new game you make a new config and save, RA will save as xxx-1.cfg, xxx-2.cfg, etc etc. — You will need to take notes of what is what to be able to rename the CFG files and organize them on the way that suits you more. — And we must not forget: several MAME/FBA playable games present music slowdown (Toki, Contra), cracks and noises in the sound effects (Shinobi), hiccups (Shadow Dancer).

Cheers! Thanks, DEVS!!! For this great EMU!

More info:

Let’s say you renamed your games (or cores) .CFG files to something else. In my case, I have a root folder on SD for game CFGs - SD/RA/contra.cfg

Then, I load the Contra config and after it, load the game. At this point, if I want to make changes on Contra config, RA will NOT SAVE properly on my contra.cfg. Unfortunately, RA will generate a new config in the same folder where my contra.cfg was. This is a bit annoying. So, be sure to pick all your configuration wisely in the first time you create a CFG for a game, or core!

I would like to suggest to DEVs:

Is it possible to make RA, at the moment we load a game, to check if there is, somewhere, a ROMNAME.CFG file? If it exists, RA loads the game with its own settings. If it does not exist, RA looks then for the TO-BE-LOADED-GAME’s Core. It CORE.CFG also does not exist, than it loads the default RA.CFG.

No more computer for today! Time to PLAY!

Regards, C.

Oh, almost forgot: Here are 3 .CFGs of mine, for FBA 1.0.0.1.

Contra, Legendary Wings and Bio Mechanical Toy. https://anonfiles.com/file/77b0c22ec0de … aaa181a596

  1. Put them anywhere in your SD
  2. Open RA
  3. Load FBA Core
  4. Load one of mine CFGs.
  5. For Contra, for example, the RA GUI will be very distorted - don’t panic, this is the way to go
  6. Load the game
  7. BINGO! Correct aspect ratio, sharp and shinning!

Have a nice weekend, guys! C.

Fba core gives dsi error screen and throws back to system menu

What are the .info files for?

@cucholix They provide some metadata for the core libraries, like a proper name (instead of the weird library name) and expected file extensions, etc.

I just registered so I could express my thanks to Squarepusher and the rest who have worked hard to bring us this release, and the releases before it. The work you guys do is great.

They are also needed for making the ‘Detect Core’ function work in RGUI.

@Froyton Thanks man :slight_smile:

Most of the reports are for bugs/requests/complaints, so it’s always refreshing to hear something nice like that once in a while.

Hi, hello and howdy!

Big fan of Retroarch, but am having two issues. First, when using the ‘Detect Core’ option while opening a CPS2 rom, I get a code dump. Is there a way that I might resolve this myself? Second, I haven’t been able to map the ‘RGUI Menu’ to any button on my Gamecube controller. It might be a non issue if there is in fact already a way to access the ‘RGUI Menu’ with the standard control set. Obviously the button combo from 0.9.9 has been made obsolete.

Thanks for your time.

I think the first issue is it’s trying to load it with the full FBA core and is crashing there. I’ll look into that.

The button combo for the GC controller is now L+R+Z+Start

Great, I will download the update and check out the FBA core

EDIT: It’s no longer on the downloads page.

Can someone reupload it for me please?

It may have been pulled for a reason. I hope it’s not dangerous in any way. Below is the link from the usual places.

(The link is suspect, so I’m removing it)

P.S. Thanks Toad King!

Cheers!

I d/loaded it this morning but didn’t get a chance to test it since I had to go to work. I figure if they took it down, it’s cuz they weren’t satisfied with it and want to make improvements, which are always welcome lol. Thanks guys.

Thanks a lot for the new version. Especially the analog to d-pad mapping is great!

FBA Full works now, I just played Fantasy Zone.

I looks like CPS1, CPS2 and Neo Geo are v.02.97.28 builds.

just to ask, what are the .info files exactly for?

Yeah this doesn’t look like it’s the correct release for Wii, it has a load of cores from the Android build that won’t even work on the Wii like Picodrive. I’ll wait for the official release.

Doesn’t stick over here using dual analog sticks. Do u have access to another classic controller to make sure yours isn’t malfunctioning?
