RPi3 : display stay black on 1st boot but works after reboot

Hello,

first of all : great job for Lakka !!!

I tested RetroPie and other distributions and so far I like the simplicity of Lakka : OpenELEC + RetroArch = just enough.

Nevertheless, since the beginning I’m facing a strange behaviour. When I boot my RPi3 the screen stay black (it can by an HDMI TV or a VGA 17" or 19" connected behind a HDMI=>VGA adapter) the display remains black. To workaround that issue I need to reboot using putty and tadam : after the reboot the display finally works.

I was just wandering how to get rid of that problem and there is 2 ways to fix it : 1- fix the dispay problem 2- or plan an automatic reboot after 1st boot

The 1st option should be the best for sure and the 2nd one is just a workaround but any help is welcome !

Thanks,

Please check the documentation.

Thank you.

Thanks gouchi,

because I’m using an HDMI to VGA adaptor (and not HDMI to DVI adaptor how it is said in the documentation) I simply though that removing “hdmi_drive=2” will not be useful. Anyway I did it and it do not fix the problem.

On another hand I added the line “hdmi_force_hotplug=1” and now display works on 1st boot but it’s ugly and still need a 2nd reboot to properly display RetroArch menu.

I also tried to add the line “hdmi_safe=1”, the display is ugly each time now even after several reboots.

I finally decided to leave the line “hdmi_force_hotplug=1” in the RPi config.txt. I do prefer having an ugly display on 1st boot than a black screen. I simply need to use the “Reboot” option from RetroArch main menu to finally get a proper display.
