Shaders for UW 3440x1440 display?

Currently using Easymode and I do quite like but I’m wondering if anything is more suited to a more hires display like mine?

I mainly just want scanlines, I don’t care much for bloom or phosphor effects etc, I especially do not like geom curving (sorry purists :stuck_out_tongue: lol) but also don’t want it to darken too much.

I mainly use RA for SNES and MD emulation.

Also, I’d like to possibly add something in the borders so it’s not all just black, but none of the shaders in “borders” work on my resolution :frowning:

I’ve tried changing the output size and box size etc but I can’t get it to work. Any ideas?

If you have a decent GPU… for the scanlines use a CG Shader variation of CRT Royale called “crt-royale-kurozumi.cgp” in the CGP folder. For borders you will have to make your own for 1440p I think, which is fairly easy. I’ve only seen ones made for 1080p.

EDIT: Oh you have ultrawide… for sure you gotta make your own.

EDIT II: There is a shader I think that fills the black area with a blurred image of the game you are playing. I personally find it too distracting, though. You might like it better than black but I don’t know what it’s called at the moment. You’ll also have to try and combine it with the shader you use for scanlines. Or just find an image you like that is the resolution (or bigger) of your monitor and cut out the area size of the game space in photoshop. Then use it as an overlay.

Thanks for that, I’ve got an AMD Fury, so horsepower shouldn’t be an issue

I tried royale and didn’t like it much, too much going on, I take it kurozumi is different?

It’s the same shader but the settings are tweaked so it looks totally different. Try it… It’s as close as you can get with a shader to a Sony PVM or BVM monitor, which are the best retro CRTs.

EDIT: You can change parameters of shaders in the shader menu to tweak settings.

I tried it, and…I didn’t like it much, sorry. It made my eyes go blurry. It looks like the image is out of focus and there’s quite a lot of what I’d call bloom, like over exposed photos.

I much prefer the Easymode to that one.

Ideally I just want a pretty much unaltered image with black scanlines.

If you say so. If all you want is black lines, any shader will work then. Just go through the CRT folder. Or use a crappy scanline overlay image. If you don’t like something, change the parameters. Many shaders do what you want.

That’s cool, thanks for your help though.

Like I said I just wanted to know if there was a shader more suited to higher resolutions but as long as I’m happy with Easymode I guess that’s what matters

I’m not seeing any blurriness or bloom in crt-royale-kurozumi, but in crt-easymode it looks blurry. Also with the default settings I hardly see any scanlines in easymode. The mask is much more pronounced than the scanlines. Here is a comparison shot of the two below. It’s possible you are using outdated shaders, or the preset doesn’t work properly in your resolution… or you have filtering on or interger scaling off. I don’t know what’s up. I’ll experiment with more crt shaders since I am looking for one that is best with vertical games. I’ll let you know if I come across anything that I think you might like. Although, I can’t really tell what you want because what you say you want and what you say you like are two different things.

Yeah, I’ve posted on the actual kurozumi thread as mine doesn’t look anything like the photos.

Reading through that thread I think it’s to do with the triads, but I’ve tried changing that but it didn’t help.

Not sure what’s wrong.

Well, looking at those 2 photos you posted (great game choice BTW, one of my all time faves!) I’d want the kurozumi one

I do find the scanlines to be somewhat weaker than I’d like on easymode.

EDIT: Oh, I and turn the mask off in easymode, which is possibly why I notice the scanlines more.

Here’s what I see with crt-royale-kurozum http://imgur.com/a/h0xs7

Look a the energy bar, there’s dark lines going dow, and on Ken’s Karategi.

It’s not displaying properly. I can only suggest to make sure your shaders are updated as well as RetroArch, and to try playing in the game’s proper aspect ratio (core-provided) or 4:3 in this case… and turn on interger scaling to see if it fixes it. It probably won’t fix it, since I just tried the game in 16:9 and many other aspect ratios with interger scaling off and it didn’t break the shader like that. Otherwise, you’d have to post in the kurozumi thread with your resolution to see if he or someone else knows what the issue is. It’s possible that a setting needs changed if you are playing higher than 1080p. Or in your case the ultrawide resolution is screwing with it? Not sure.
