[Solved] Lakka 2.1 / x64 PC / Zotac-ION / HDMI No signal

Hello All,

This is meant to help others like myself installing or running live with the “Lakka-Generic.x86_64-2.1.img” on a PC that has onboard Nvidia ION graphics and VGA, DVI, and HDMI outputs.

I drove myself nuts reading forum posts for 2 days, trying various things through SSH like editing the retroarch.cfg file and even the sysliunx.cfg. Nothing seemed to work.

The machine would POST and I could see all of that info on my TV through HDMI, but when syslinux took over and started the graphical server, the TV went blank and said no signal.

Connecting a monitor to the VGA port in addition to the HDMI going to the TV resulted in all output going to the VGA line (post and then the graphical display for Lakka).

All things suggested in the forums to other people said it should be working. HDMI-A-1:e was in place, dmesg, checked out, etc.

So WTH ? What was I missing ? I swapped out the HDMI cable… no joy. I tried a Gateway Monitor with HDMI and it lit up like a charm ??? Quickly pulled the HDMI cable from the monitor and jammed it back into my TV thinking maybe it somehow initialized something on the ION chipset. :confounded: Nope, same ol no signal message…

What is so different about the monitor over the TV ? Then it hit me, DATE. The TV is about 7 yrs old…

I jump onto LG’s website and sure enough there is a user install-able firmware update for my trusty 42LK450.

I download it, put it on a usb key in the directory they specify and plug it into my main living room TV with much angst as I have seen FW updates go bad before and well, you know…

Firmware update on TV - Check Lakka running on PC through HDMI - Check !!!

I am in business !!! Man what a ride…

For those who skipped to the bottom and didn’t read the story… UPDATE FIRMWARE IN TV IF HDMI ISSUES BEFORE ANY OTHER POSSIBLE FIX.
