Hello everyone, to begin with, I wish the whole community a good start to the year. I open this topic to ask for help from all of you: I use Mega Bezels and the Guest Advance CRT, and I would like to understand how to configure the latter to try to recreate the visual effect of the Lottes Multipass Glow CRT, perhaps with less blurring, a little more sharp. I am sure that the CRT guest Advance, being very complete with possibilities, has functions and features taken from the CRT Lottes, but apart from the matter of the masks I don’t know where to put my hand. I sincerely thank anyone who wants to give me some advice and wants to teach me new things.
I can offer you a starting point in my CyberLab Computer Monitor Sharp and Computer Monitor Smooth Presets in my shader preset pack.
From there you can observe the settings needed to get the Lottes Mask to work then you can add glow, afterglow and halation to your liking.
You can reinstate curvature if that’s what you’re going for and you can play around with the various sharpness settings and things like mask strength.
They were updated to work with HSM Mega Bezel Reflection Shader V1.7.0 today. V1.6.3 but not 1.7.0 though but if you want to use 1.7.0 you might just have to set Mask Bloom to 0 and Deconvergence Scale Mode to Absolute.
Cyber first of all thanks for the answer, I find your work is fantastic, but unfortunately my PC does not allow me to have a decent framerate, I hope to be your customer in the future, perhaps with a new PC.
However I have seen your parameters and made various tests. With my 1080p screen and my hardware, I found very good results by setting horizontal sharpness to 4.20, the subtractive value to 50 and selecting mask 2 or 3 (to taste). A sort of CRT Lottes much less blurry and, in my opinion effective. If anyone else has ideas, opinions or advice, I’m happy to discuss them and, in the meantime, I’ll keep the thread open.
You’re welcome. You said you use Mega Bezel so I thought you were able to properly run Mega Bezel presets at proper playable framerates.
Once you can run the base Mega Bezel Base presets or any other Mega Bezel Reflection Shader Presets, you should be able to run any of my presets.
Perhaps you might need to use a No-Reflect variant? I’ve only included No-Reflect versions of my MBZ__0__SMOOTH-ADV_GDV presets but it should be fairly simple to convert any of my MBZ__1__ADV__GDV or MBZ__3__STD_GDV to their NO-REFLECT counterparts using find and replace if that’s what you require to run them properly.
Which Mega Bezel Reflection Shader presets are you able to run well right now?
You also said you run CRT-Guest-Advance , all of my mask and sharpness settings are usable with the standalone CRT-Guest-Advance.
There are also other ways to create Shadow Mask style masks using other masks for example 0, 1, 2 or 6 with the Mask Stagger setting. I’ve seen other posts with some pretty decent looking results using that method as well.
Don’t forget to disable Deconvergence if you’re looking for a perfectly aligned Shadow Mask RGB triad.
Hello cyber, sorry if I answer only now. To be clear, I probably explained myself badly, I point and use the potato-gdv presets for purely performance reasons, in addition to this I lose in fps and I get worse and worse the higher I go. I can’t wait to be able to change PCs to enjoy your works, which I find exceptional from what I’ve seen firsthand, and those related to the HSM Mega Bezel package which I now only partially enjoy. I tried everything but beyond the preset that I said before the speed and performance have deteriorated, and anyway I sincerely thank you, guest, HyperspaceMadness, Duimon, Kokoko3k, and all the artists interested in presenting their works, and beyond my current possibility to use or not your works, for all that you do for free for us and the whole community, RetroGaming would not be like this without you.
I wanted to share that with the potato-gdv preset I achieved exceptional results by setting the horizontal sharpness to 2.60, and the subtractive values which were at 0.80 I brought them both to 1.00, the final result amazed me. For anyone who wants to try it let me know what you think.
