Update nightly without reformatting everything?

So I have a nightly from late september installed, but I noted a couple days ago that wifi can now be enabled via the gui in the newest nightlies. Problem is the ethernet port on the lakka laptop decided to break, so I cannot send anything to it remotely. So my choices are get a USB>Ethernet dongle or get wifi working. I cannot ssh in to enable wifi via terminal since ethernet is dead so that leaves the only option to be via the gui.

So, since lakka is on a live usb, i booted it with another laptop with working ethernet, went to update lakka and… the newest build is from like August. I think its trying to update to the official release. How can I update this to the newest nightly without having to redo the entire usb stick? Id prefer not having to reload all the games back on it.

Nevermind…i didnt read enough

Ok, im still lost. There was no .update folder, if i try to create one in osx (drives mounted) it says folders cant start with a period. I tried creating just an update folder, but it didnt work. Can live usb be updated without throwing everything away?

the /.updates folder is typically a hidden folder (unless things have changed). As I don’t have any experience with Macs while dealing with Linux partitions over SMB, I don’t know what to tell you other than try using a different OS to talk to the Lakka computer you use. I’ve been able to find the /.update folder with a Linux computer, Chromebook, and an Android tablet, but it takes trickery and extra programming to get the SMB access with the Chromebook and Android tablet.

Edit: do you mean by USB that you have Lakka as a Live boot? If so that might be why there isn’t an update folder

Yes, its live boot. the spare laptop im using has no hard drive in it currently.

I moved the live usb stick to another laptop upstairs with a working ethernet port. Can access it via SMB now. Tried via OSX, Windows, and an Android tablet all with hidden files/folders turned on and i still dont see a .update folder anywhere.

finally got this working. While I had the laptop with working ethernet i updated via ssh. This took it back to the official build from August. I then just put the TAR file in the Update folder (not .update). It took it just fine and updated it. Now I have working wifi from the laptop with the broken ethernet. Phew, saved myself $10 wahoo lol
