We don’t do anything special to input that could cause it, AFAWK. It seems to be something up with libogc…? We’ve asked a number of Wii devs for any sort of patches/input/clues they might provide but no one has offered anything, unfortunately.
Did a bit more messing around, tried to change my joypad input driver but that just made Retroarch not recognize my controllers, which I suppose I should have seen coming. I’ve also been able to make the skipping happen on the actual menu for Retroarch. I suppose that means it’s not strictly limited to the SNES9x Next?
Yeah, it’s in RetroArch itself, since that’s the part that actually handles the input and depends on libogc.
Would it help at all to make a Github issue on Retroarch or would that not really have any purpose?
It’s a well-known issue that all of the major contributors are familiar with. There may already be an issue, in fact, though it’s almost certainly super-old and possibly closed, either because we thought it was fixed but it wasn’t or because Twinaphex and Toad King gave up on it.
Oh well that’s alright then. Thanks again, I appreciate the information.
No problem. I know I sound a little jaded about it–and I know that’s how Twinaphex feels about it–but just because it’s been around for so long and we have no idea what to do about it and gotten no help from any of the people who work/ed on libogc. It’s a thing we would love to see fixed but we’ve dumped a ton of man-hours into it over the years with zero progress.
The 10/16 nightly fails to load on my Wii (and all the other recent nightlies) – I noticed the 1.2.2 version has a lot more files present, is there something specific that the nightly 7z needs to be combined with, or should it be good to go by itself?
The loading/crashing problem seems to be happening with all versions currently available in the nightly downloads on buildbot, going all the way back to 2015-10-13 It might be a config file issue? I cleared the config files it and it seems to write one line to sd:/retroarch/retroarch.cfg before crashing:
libretro_path = “sd:/apps/retroarch-wii/fb_alpha_cps1_libretro_wii.dol”
Sorry to be a pain, but any chance the nightlies will get fixed anytime soon? I’d like to use the newer version of FB Alpha.
I have a suggestion to add 5-6 controllers support in snes and TGX-16 emulation. Bomberman is so much nicer to play with 5 players.
I just saw that the 3DS nightly build from yesterday added filters into the main cores. Does the Wii version have filters implemented too? Or is it still something yet to be added?

I compiled an old version having filters enabled and … no, wii doesn’t like filters, fps goes down with them enabled, maybe they need some optimizations or something like that
I reverted the last change to platform_wii.c and tested it out on my Wii. Worked just fine.
I encourage you guys to try out the Wii nightly again and start with a clean slate (new configs, etc). You will know you are on the latest nightly if it says in the Wii Homebrew Channel ‘Version 1.3.0’.
Thanks guys ! One more guy here that is grateful for your work, and (still) using the Wii to get his emulation fix . I’m sorry I’m not able to contribute (closest I ever got to coding is HTML lol lol ) but just wanted to say, try not to get drained by some of the ungratefulness / whining going around here, your work is appreciated! Keep it up
Just tested the nov 15 nightly on my wii and everything worked fine.
@Daruda Thanks, man. It’s nice to hear some positivity
Great to hear nightlies working again on the Wii. Keep up the good work guys!
I tried the 2015-11-15 and 2015-11-16 nightlies for Wii. Black screen only, no initial GUI start. There is a tiny flicker after a very short time, but it stays black. Home button has no effect. As usual I cleared out config files before trying new versions. I am only seeing retroarch.cfg being created, with only 1 line: libretro_path = “sd:/apps/retroarch-wii/fb_alpha_cps1_libretro_wii.dol” Should be noted I am using a PAL Wii attached to CRT over SCART and running 60Hz.
I also get the Black Screen of Death using 2015-11-15.
@hcraorter Is your setup abnormal in anyway like beerbarian’s? That is, PAL60 or anything like that?
