Zotac ZBOX ID41 PLUS - HDMI No Audio. :(

I got my Zotac ZBOX ID41 PLUS in the mail which I intended to devote to this. Sadly I have come to find that the audio over HDMI does not seem to be supported. So I am forced to run an extra audio cable from the unit to the TV which is a bum deal.

Any plans to resolve this in the future? Please please please!!! I’m telling you, the Zotac’s are a perfect non-expensive fit, right next to the Raspberry Pi 2!

I have tested this with the latest 64-bit nightly.

Also I tried Openelec, but it just gave me horrible screen garbage upon booting into the system.

KodiUbuntu boots great, though it also does not support HDMI audio output, nor does it support my USB 3 ports. Of course I’ll write on their forums about that is KodiUbuntu is obviously not Lakka related.

I think whether or not you have HDMI audio is more a function of your chipset and kernel support rather than a general distro issue.

I tested it under Windows and all was well, so I presume what I need to hope for is that the Openelec/Lakka distro supports it at some point in the future?

Well, sort of. HDMI audio is dictated by the driver, not the distro. If you’re using the nvidia proprietary driver, the issue is probably related to this: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/525840/linux/new-driver-310-19-broke-hdmi-audio-on-nvidia-ion/1/ At the end of the thread, an nvidia dev says they’ve found the issue and that it should be fixed in the ā€œnext version,ā€ whichever that is. So, whenever that update comes, you would need to update to that driver. I don’t know if that’s easily done in OpenElec/Lakka.

Lakka keeps me pretty well locked out of acess the OS via the traditional ways, and beyond that, my main source for Linux experience comes through Debian, which is really user friendly when it comes to dealing with drivers, updates, and such. I would not even know where to begin with Openelec aka Lakka, even if I had acess under the proverbial hood. So in short I can only say that I’m using the drivers that came with Lakka.

Man… if Nvidia’s official drivers are still lacking, then the Steambox is going to have a rough time being successful with customers.

And check this crap out, if this isn’t a sign of bad news or good news, I don’t know…

At the bottom of the Openelec page (which Lakka is built upon), it says that Zotac is one of their sponsors.

You might have to edit retroarch.cfg. I had a similiar issue with my MSI Probox23. For further information see this thread https://github.com/libretro/Lakka/issues/108

Thank you, I’ll look into this tonight!
