Can't Boot From USB (Chromebox)

I’ve setup a bootable USB and I’m trying to run Lakka live on my Chromebox. When I select the USB to boot from, I get windows with the option to run installer or run live. No matter which one I choose, the flower logo comes up for a split second and then the box restarts itself. I’ve tried a bunch of different things that may be right or wrong:

  • I am using a MAC to create my boot USB through a terminal window with command: “sudo dd if=~/Desktop/Lakka-Generic.x86_64-devel-20151223095921-r21250-gd666dcf.img of=/dev/disk2”
  • I’ve selected Mac as my current OS and have downloaded the Generic PC build off the Lakka website.
  • My USB is partitioned in FAT32 with Master Boot Record selected before I create my boot disk in Terminal with the command above.

Thanks for the help!

Looks like a graphic card issue. What is your graphic card?

Here are the specs on the Chromebox:

Processor: Intel Core i3 4010U Graphics Adapter: Intel HD Graphics 4400

Thanks, I will check if there is something wrong in our kernel config about Intel HD support.

Was this ever figured out? I’m having the same issue on a HP Chromebox with an i7-4600U w/ Intel HD 4400 GPU. Reboots immediately after the menu.

By the way, did you try with latest nightly?

If it is still doesn’t work, please provide some log : http://www.lakka.tv/doc/FAQ/#how-do-i-debug-retroarch

Sorry, no. I used the latest provided from lakka.tv/get [0]. I’ll try the nightly this evening and report back.

Same behavior. Submitted a ticket for it.

Not sure if it helps at all but I’m running Lakka on an asus chromebox with what I believe is essentially the hd3000 and I don’t experience any problems.

What bios do you have installed? SeaBIOS beside the original? Or coreboot? The boot image “just works”?

SeaBIOS, and yes everything works 100% normally.

There was a write protection screw I had to remove prior to installing SeaBIOS, but I don’t know if that has any relevance to the problem.

It doesn’t. I’ve the latest SeaBIOS installed and pretty much everything else boots fine. Random Linux distros, Windows 10, RemixOS (uses syslinux)… LibreELEC, OpenELEC, and Lakka all fail.

try a different dongle, i once had problems with one slow dongle, running lots of distros through her and lakka not, same exact problems has you, changed to a fast one and everything went perfect

Already tried that. I’ve tried USB2 and USB3 sticks. SDCards. USB SDCard adapters. USB2 hub connected to the USB3 ports of the Chromebox. All behave identically.

Try the LE based builds here http://le.builds.lakka.tv/

FWIW, I was also having an issue with an HP Chromebox. I was experiencing the same issue (Lakka would show the flower for a split second, then reboot). I went through the Kodi Setup script once again then flashed the coreboot firmware. I was confused then because I couldn’t get my system to see the thumbdrive I was using. Turns out it’s because this puts the machine in EFI boot mode. So I had to grab one of the latest nightlies/beta versions that DOES support EFI boot. After I sorted this out, I was running everything just fine!
