I think the main thing that has worked for me is that I tend to vary my use a lot. I use my TV as a monitor but also for playing games using Mega Bezel (of course) but I also watch TV and movies, videos as well.
If you’re going to be skipping out on the other uses then you might very well run into some issues.
Do note that there’s a difference between Burn-In and temporary image retention.
The only time I had any issue with temporary image retention was after playing Civilization V, which is a somewhat highly addictive and thus OLED unfriendly game. That game is one which can easily hook you into playing exclusively for days and weeks without wanting to play or watch anything else on the set, however, once I noticed the image retention, I ran clear panel noise a couple times until it went away.
That was a very long time ago and there have been many advancements in terms of image retention mitigation both on the software and hardware side since then. I also have my TV on a stand more than a foot off the wall. That might help to keep things from cooking a bit, which might actually help in the image retention department.
I’ve had my TV for over 7 years now and apart from some damage to the motherboard due to a lightning strike which resulted in a slow death of the board, which I replaced and about 1 dead pixel on the left side of the screen which I can’t see unless I go close to the screen and look for it everything is still running fine.
Other than that I have a plain black desktop background, hidden desktop icons and auto-hide my taskbar.
I use colorcontrol and LG-TV Companion to unlock additional features of the TV and I also use a utility called HDMI-Yo to help with the occasional handshaking issue between my TV, Receiver and PC.
These presets were designed primarily on an LG OLED TV so you’ll probably get a really awesome experience if that’s what you’re using as well.
