Here is a new WIP.
The Panasonic PanaColor TH18-17.
I have been planning on doing this for more than a year, and I thought it was time to start my vintage TV project.
TBH when I first got going, it felt like I had forgotten how to create graphics.
Thankfully, as the details increased, I realized what I had forgotten was how much work these projects can be.
This one presented a few challenges.
- First off, there are very few available source images, and the one that made it famous…
…Hotel Okura’s advertisement, featuring Freddy Mercury…
…had some pre-Photoshop, darkroom magic alterations. (If you look at Freddy’s finger, next to the TV, you’ll see that the main TV has been de-saturated. (So I don’t know what color it is.)
Thankfully I found another shot.
And some good shots of it’s sister TV the TH18-C8.
Taken together I was able to move forward.
- Second. There are a whole lot of Japanese Kanji and Katana.
With some image cleanup, some Kanji OCR, some Google Translate trial and error, and just plain stubbornness, I think I have the vast majority correct. (At least the translations make sense.)
There are a few temporary placeholders. I have a message out to @Telmo, who has been of great assistance in the past. When RL brings him back to us, I hope to correct the remaining few.
- Finally, I wanted the TV to perfectly fill the screen.
This means that I had to fudge a few things. I tried to come to a graceful compromise but it will never be perfect.
I plan on creating a new repo to house this project. I will also be copying my TV5 and TV6 there. (With some preset name changes.
These will use a modified boilerplate that I have yet to create, (They don’t need access to all my Subclasses.) so it will be a bit before it goes live.
I did some serious on the fly OCD passes during creation, but you can expect at least one more.
Here is a preview of the next on my list.
The SAMPO 9519.
