I’ve managed to create a perfect LUT with the colors of my Sony WEGA 29FA310. I have used grade shader and put side-by-side my TV and my monitor and used 240pTest Suite to compare colors and other characteristics.

I’ve already tried to use the known Trinitron LUTs available inside reshade folder, but none of them reminds me of my WEGA TV. So I made my own LUT.

The main difference between my WEGA from pure sRGB is the blue color. sRGB is more saturated while the WEGA is mostly dark blue, which make the games more ā€œmatureā€ I think (less purple tones and less light blues). It’s very noticeable in games like Sonic.

I made a second version of crt-hyllian with this new LUT (on slot 2) and a new preset that is already configured to load the right LUT for tests: crt-hyllian-new-mask-v2 plus Sony WEGA 29FA310 LUT

Some screens using the new LUT:

hey!

its been a while that I don’t play around with shaders, but I just tried this one and it looks fantastic on my screen, love the colors especially the blues! is it going to be available with uborder?

Eventually, if it’s well received. If you find any bugs with the LUT, please report. In the end, it’ll probably be added to reshade LUT folder to be used by anyone interested.

Those blues are exactly what I get in my real CRT. I couldn’t find any LUT that were even close to that. I’ve tried making it before but I couldn’t. This time I was lucky to tweak grade in the right params to get it like that.

LUTs are cool. I’ll test this new one asap. Seems like another interesting possibility for the shader.

Very nice LUT production. I derrived mine from display ICC profiles from the web with DisplayCAL. One of the downsides is LUT png’s have to be coded into a preset, for more options multi-lut shader code is a must.

I remember you gave me DisplayCAL, but I couldn’t get anything useful out of it.

I know that depending on the TV model, the colors may be slightly different. So this LUT I made is just a special case.

Grade is the easiest way to create your own LUTs. Although it requires a good eye to detect the small differences in color.

This looks superb m8!

I’ll fine tune this LUT today. I think the color temp is slightly in the cool side. I’ll put it in neutral position.

EDIT: Unfortunately, not so easy as I thought. I’ll need more time to tweak.

I’m still testing the current LUT. So far, so good. I’m yet to find any ā€œthis feels offā€ situation; it’s a subtle (but positive) LUT, after all. Weren’t Sony TVs tailored for 9300K or something? Wouldn’t that make an LUT based on them lean towards a cooler look?

Maybe you’re right about temp on Sony TVs.

Anyway, I made a warmer LUT compared to the first and put it in slot 1. the old one is still on slot2, so you can compare. Dark blues are slightly less dark, though it keeps the characteristic of the WEGA palette.

quickly tried on my monitor, and I think that I prefer the colder one with the deeper dark blues, but it’s just my taste, both are looking good!

Yeah, I think in the end both LUTs are good and will please different people.

I’ll post the presets that use Grade to to generate these LUTs, so that anyone can tweak even more and find other variants. I only changed two or three params at most from default Grade params. I don’t change too many params in order to avoid breaking color balance.

EDIT: Here the LUT presets using Grade

I’ve done some testing. So far, I’m concluding that both LUTs are fine and complement each other. Historically, the traditional RGB and Composite LUTs were always good, but, as crt-hyllian evolved, I don’t think they fit that well anymore; something changed, now they’re a bit washed out in many situations. The Wega LUTs are indeed more subdued, but also balanced and fit better with the new mask-heavy approach of the shader. Wega LUT v1 (cool colors) is a bit darker and deeper, and adds some elegance and contrast; Wega LUT v2 (warm colors) is a bit brighter and familiar, livens up dark scenes, but is a little worse regarding contrast. At any rate, they both add positive flexibility to the shader, improving what it can do.

My opinion is: for this new version, replace both RGB and Composite LUTs with ā€œWega Warmā€ and ā€œWega Coolā€, as each give a distinct look which the user may prefer over the another, but keep the two of them.

Forgot to add: both Wega LUTs can achieve true blacks with the current crt-hyllian, which is a big plus. The RGB and Composite ones lost that possibility after the new version.

Still testing. Current shader is doing really good, especially with the new LUTs.

Another Trinitron LUT available is that one inside reshade folder. I changed it to work in neutral temp. I’ve added a preset with that LUT so that you can compare. v4 + Trinitron LUT tweaked to D65.
