make sure to do the #0

It worked, thanks, I almost never update the shaders, only the guest ones.

new update to V8.09

  • better gamma
  • balanced sharp (PCE and mixed phase now should be closer to Auto, I think mixed mode should act like “notch” with 3 phase content which help getting maximal blending of dithering)
  • crt-black_crush-koko removed from 4x presets (it crash retroarch for me)

edit: small update to V8.10

edit: yet another update to V8.11 with better vertical filtering and black level, and as a side effect “TV 480i V8” presets now work better and cleaner

edit: update to V8.12

Do you have an tl;dr for the version differences and the present differences?

if you use native resolution and dont stream or record use “Jobima CRT Preset TV 480i V8” for NTSC or “Jobima CRT PAL TV 480i Preset V8” for PAL

version differences are basically come from guest changes plus my changes to basically adding more shaders like crt-black_crush-koko and tweak the settings to make the preset work from nes up to ps2 and maybe even wii in balanced sharp and brightness ETC…

Edit: if you mean the V7 vs V8, then you should only use V8 now, I may remove the V7 from the packs soon

Remove the v7, damn, I like it more than the v8. But I sit close to the monitor and prefer the thinner scanlines. I can see why you would remove it though. The v8 has improvements over the v7 and having a v7 is confusing. I do think the o7 is better than the v7.

if you use native resolution

Do you mean running the game rendered to 640x480 resolution, i.e. the window or fullscreen is set to 640x480? Or, do you mean the game is internally renderd at 640x480 i.e. fullscreen but not upscaled internally?

well, you can keep using the V7 if you like it more

I mean if you set the core option to reder the game in 2x or more of the native resolution, I already has a preset for the 4x of the native resolution

That brings clarity to what the 4x is. Thank you. Still confused about what the use case for 480i would be. Would I choose it for content that is interlaced?

all presets can work with 480, but “smooth 480i” will blend Fields using interlace mode #5 from guest

and “TV 480i” will act kinda like how interlace work in CRT TVs

updated the reshade preset to V8.14

this is new start, the preset now is a full shader mixed with my port of crt-black_crush-koko and my update of CRT-Guest-NTSC.fx port of HelelSingh

aside from the need of Resolution settings there are new AspectSize_X/AspectSize_Y which help in Aspect Ratio difference between the game and the Screen Resolution (like if your game is 4:3 and you have 16:9 1080p [1920x1080] Screen Resolution then you need to use 1440 in AspectSize_X)

there are also OriginalFPS which needed for crt-black_crush-koko effect temporal smoothing

MH, yours looks pretty similar to mine that I’ve been messing with, but yours has better colors. I think I’ll swap out mine for the V8.

Mine

yours (v8 with thinscanlines =1)

i’m confused about the resolution preprocessor definitions. I am trying to use PCSX2, which runs the game at 512x448 internal resolution, and i have a 2560x1440 monitor. I have aspectsize_x set to 1920 (because the game is 4:3), so should i set resolution x/y to 512x448, or 640x480? Does this change if i decide to increase the internal resolution in PCSX2?

Is there anyway that I can you use your settings on reshade with seeing my retroachievements clear on PCSX2? It’s really annoying that I cannot. I wish PCSX2 had the same post processing settings as duckstation.

well it’s still readable I think

also LRPS2 core now is ok (unless you need pressure-sensitive)

both PCSX2 and duckstation dont care about CRT shaders, aside from libretro/retroarch we can only hope for ares emu to get retroachievements and support PS2, or maybe BizHawk to get librashader support

Anybody working on LRPS2?

you mean is it active or not? it’s active https://github.com/libretro/ps2

I mean has been updated? Cuz man I rather that than PCSX2. At least Duckstation lets me use ntsc guest advanced and I can see the retroachievements clearly.

yes, also it has Parallel-GS which is not available in PCSX2 (at least now) which been updated in LRPS2 https://github.com/libretro/ps2/issues/100

I noticed this before it went closed-source, and I tried it and found it had some problems. It was based on a reshade version and hadn’t been updated in a long time. As far as I know, it was removed after the move to closed source.

Personally, I wouldn’t use anything closed-source, especially when open-source alternatives exist. Beetle PSX Core is very good, particularly since I don’t need upscaled riddled with problems and overburdening the PS1’s art style with more resolution than it designed for
