Mega Bezel Reflection Shader! - Feedback and Updates

Seems fine to keep it. It’s easy enough to turn off if you don’t want it. :slightly_smiling_face:

i use it for super resolutions

What is the the best method of changing the game Moon Patrol from vertical to horizontal?

Thanks

Change the aspect orientation to Horizontal.

Can you turn on the resolution debug parameter on(second parameter in the list) and take a snapshot so I can see the resolution the core is outputting?

I think it’s supposed to be 4:3 horizontal, iirc.

edit That’s how I have mine set up.

So just change it to to horizontal and 4:3 in the shader settings.

Actually, scratch that… I just double-checked. Mine is set to auto, which looks correct and is not 4:3.

Sorry for late reply in bed atm, I’ll report back shortly with some debug info. Thanks :+1:

After a bit of googling i found that other people are having similar issues with how this game gets displayed. Someone mentioned that the core output res is nearly square and so presumably that is what causes the problem.

This tally’s up with the debug info:

Thanks for your help everything looks fine now:

I always thought it was a horizontal game, but vertical is what the shader/overlay was making it vertical in Mame current core…

Great for reference :muscle:

Changing Aspect ratio / type to 5.00 makes it better i think.

I just changed the aspect orientation to horizontal like HSM said… then all was good :muscle:

i tried that and it did not seem to change, anything maybe another setting for it. all good though.

The parameters for aspect ratio, and aspect ratio orientation are two separate parameters.

For this one you can set aspect ratio orientation to horizontal and set aspect ratio it to 4:3 (if necessary)

Just a PSA about the new MAME Current

Thanks to @Sonninos the latest MAME core has rotation options to be able to better control the rotation happening under the hood.

To have the same behavior as in the previous MAME Current (which is rotating the image inside MAME before it gets sent to Retroarch) you will need to go to the Core Options and set Rotation Mode to Internal.

If it is set to “libretro” mode I was expecting it to work similarly as with FBNeo. But I think this is interacting in an unexpected way with the wildcards. I have to look into how it is different than what FBNeo produces.

I absolutely love this set of shader package and would like to thank all the people who contributed to this project.

I would have one question. Which preset would be good for Windows 98 games played in 1024 x 768 resolution? Or should I simply stick to 800 x 600?

I also saw a background with PC with Windows 98 sticker on it somewhere. Any ideas how can I find that background (or shader preset)? I have no idea where I’ve seen it.

Thanks for any help!

Hello, I try to use those shaders on my Retroid Pocket 3+ Android console handheld. This is a good Android console in terms of performances. However, none of the Mega bezels shaders work (when I chose one, it crashes). For your information, my Retroarch version is 1.9 (it is the 64 bits app), and my Video driver is Vulkan.

  1. Do you know if those shaders can work on my handheld ?
  2. I would like to use the glass effect but reducing the computing by scaling the aspect ratio maximum vertically, and thus, only have the glass effect on left & right. Is that possible ? Can we customize a light version of this wonderful shader ?

Thank you very much for your kind help.

Even if you could get the shader to run, (It requires Retroarch 1.15.0 or higher) The specs of that device aren’t enough to run it well.

The first issue is that you will need to use Retroarch 1.15, the shader won’t load in 1.9

There are a number of different presets with different performance. GDV-MINI or PASSTHROUGH will have the highest performance. You can consult the readme which has a table about performance and features.

You could try different aspect ratios in the retroarch viewport scaling properties, and use the custom aspect ratio of you want
