Mega Bezel Reflection Shader! - Feedback and Updates

Hello,

Please excuse a potentially ignorant question; does anyone know of any shaders / bezels for:

Sony Pocketststion Epoch Game Pocket Computer Milton Bradley Microvision

I love the shaders / bezels for all the other handhelds and would love some for these last 3 systems i’ve got running within Retrobat.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thank you,

Nick

I’ve seen several mentions of retrobat lately… is this like a retroarch alternative?

Nothing now, (That I’ve done anyway.)

If they are using MAME then it is guaranteed I will do something eventually.

Nope. It is a Windows native version of Batocera (Linux).

Like Batocera, it uses both Retroarch and/or standalone emulators.

I am not sure it is capable though (As is Batocera.) of using an Overlay with standalone emulators.

@ShyTalk

All three systems are emulatable (At least to some degree.) in the MAME core.

The PocketStation has no MAME software list xml and the roms are not included in any software list distribution.

As such it requires jumping through some hoops to get a rom running. (No tougher than many other systems though.)

I am clueless at this point about how well the systems can be controlled, but that has never been a concern of mine, as long as I can get it running.

I will add these three systems to my future to do list. (If they are not already there.)

Edit: The Epoch was already on the list, the other two have been added.

Thank you for the suggestions… new systems are always welcome.

That’s great news mate; thank you for looking i to it.

It’s funny because i’ve got all my handheld systems using your artwork (except the 3 I mentioned) and they look like works of art but then i’ve got these 3 stinkers with just basic bezels that look kinda sad!

Can’t wait to have the complete set! Especially the Milton Bradley Microvision!

Thanks again!

if you could include something like the ambilight feature that koko-aio has, this would literally be perfect for me. uborder is close and has ambilight and guest-advanced support, but i have a megabezel preset i love that i just can’t quite recreate with guest on its own and the look i believe is dependent on some of the other shaders bundled into megabezel. I desire the ambilight feature however because I play on OLED and i’m worried about having a static image or black pillarboxes on for too long. (also the ambilight just looks cool). would something like that be possible in the future?

Yup this is planned for V2

Could you share your creation? I really like it. It enables me to immerse myself in the game without being distracted by the distorted screen.

ok, how do you apply the vector preset only to the picture (monitor) part of diumon’s Bezel Project Presets? That loads an overlay as the background, so the reflection shader and bezel show up on top of it. Allowing us to use any of the old bezels from various projects of the past, since they show up under the shader.

you can copy the preset and set the bezel to the generic image (or anyone you want) if thats your goal

so I saw someone on Twitch with MegaBezel who had an additional shader/setting that allowed the background part of the image to get lighter/darker (the walls on the sides of the TV set), depending on the image on the screen. How would we do this?

Nothing in the current release would do this. It’s possible they were using the V2 development version.

If you want to give it a spin, backup of your current installation (Or temporarily rename the “shaders_slang\bezel\Mega_Bezel” folder to something like “Mega_Bezel_OLD”) and follow the GitHub “Bleeding Edge” link at the top of this thread.

This sounds like it might be one of the koko-aio presets that use Mega Bezel, they have ambient lighting based on the image displayed

They don’t use the Mega Bezel at all. @kokoko3k just used the “bezel” in the Mega Bezel as inspiration.

The koko-aio presets are entirely the authors original creation, and as such are probably some of the most unique CRT shaders that exist.

Yep, that was the one.

The ambient light is pretty cool. One functionality I really found interesting was the ability to directly move the subpixel groups in very small increments–kind of how we can rotate them in MBZ, except in Koko they can be rolled up and down for whatever alignment we wish.

I might have reported this before but, I could not get VGA / DoubleScan mode to work in Mega Bezel like in the standalone Guest Advanced. Is this a known bug?

I’m using v1.17.2. I also tried the GitHub version.

The Mega Bezel uses an entirely internalized, older version of the Guest Advance so will lag significantly behind the current version.

@Duimon I figured so, but the problem here is that the VGA mode does not trigger at all no matter how many related paramters I tweak, while in the standalone guest it’s a simple switch and it works:

I suspect this is a bug. I’m using the following preset:

Mega_Bezel/Presets/Base_CRT_Presets/MBZ__1__ADV__GDV.slangp

Have you tried asking the creator of the CRT-Guest-Advanced shader? @guest.r

Remember Mega Bezel Reflection Shader is a collection of shaders made by different people.

Yeah i guess i’m asking how to add the reflective properties back after loading up the hi-res mode in FBneo for the vector games. Because they go away after that.
