New CRT shader from Guest + CRT Guest Advanced updates

Yo, guest.r, I’m still in the lab and thank you lol. I decided I’m sticking with the maximum 1.00 on the “Mitigate Mask on Edges” setting instead of the prior 0.5 I had it on. That along with using “Mitigate Mask on Mid-Colors” setting at 0.1.

For composite I remember you saying I can lower the first ntsc shader pass “scale” from x4 to x2 I’m taking that route this time. I also changed the “ntsc pass 3” and “custom fast sharpen” “filter” from “linear” to “nearest”, doing all of that helped in getting an even more clearer looking ntsc image. I may go back and play with the colors/saturation more though, you know me, always trying out new styles and looks lol.

Speaking of saturation I also I have a question concerning the interlacing settings, is it possible to lower the interlacing saturation setting a bit more on interlaced mode 4? I noticed both mode 3 and 4 look a bit more saturated compared to interlaced mode 1, 2 and off.

Here’s how it looks with interlaced mode off:

Here’s how it looks with interlaced mode 4:

I’m trying to get the image to look more like the first pic but even after turning the “Interlacing saturation” setting off completely it still looks like the second pic.

I guess the specific problem also lies with Interlacing Scanline Effect makes the image darker, especially notable with mode 4.0. You can try setups without Interlacing Scanline Effect and Interlacing (Scanline) Saturation for more control directly from grading.

I think I found the “cheat code” by bending the rules a bit. I went ahead and manually lowered that interlace saturation setting below 0 to -1.00.

Here’s with Interlacing turned off:

Interlace mode 4 with Scanline saturation at -1.00:

That definitely helped in reducing that saturation by a bit and it only affects Interlaced content which is what I needed. If I had tweaked saturation in grade it would’ve changed the overall image and even still interlaced content would’ve still looked extra saturated I’m sure.

This might be the only thing I need to help fix this issue, will try it at different negative values until I think I found the right spot. My goal is to have the saturation look the same between interlaced mode 4 content and with non interlaced content, or at least close enough.

Edit: Tried interlaced saturation at -.60:

Maybe somewhere in between those values will do the trick.

Trying to make strong masks.

That doesn’t look like trying to me! Looks like you’ve done it!

Great job!

I guess i forgot to mention that the “Clip Saturated Color Beams” is disabled when interlace mode is active. This could also cause the difference in saturation regardless. Nevertheless, if the mentioned parameter tweak works nice with the preset, then it’s all set.

Wow! Thank you  I lowered Mask bloom and raised halation just a notch as you mentioned, and also I made changes in deconvergence mode, it was quite a bit messy before.

Hmm I never considered that setting cause I had it turned off this whole time, I guess that still had an effect on the saturation then. But yes I think I’m able to get by with this new found workaround, that was one of the last things I needed fixed too.

Can I copy and paste these values in retroarch or do I have to type these myself?

You’ll have to copy the preset then paste it in a text editor like Notepad. Then remove all the "> " before each line then save as a *.slangp in your Shaders folder.

Be sure to match the version of CRT-Guest-Advanced being used in the preset.

I’m sorry, Cyber but do I have to copy these on like a notepad and then replace “>” before each line then save as a *.slangp in my shaders folder?

Yes. That’s what you need to do. Don’t forget the space after the > as well. The formatting should look like Professor Braun’s preset above.

I did something wrong. It’s not loading in Retroarch.

Give us a ball by ball of what you did including photos and screenshots so that we can understand where you’re going wrong and correct if necessary.

What’s a good website to display images from screenshots?

Postimg.cc and imgbb.com are excellent in this regard. I used to use imgur.com before but I can’t figure out how to stop it from recompressing my images and significantly lowering their quality.

Greetings @guest.r!

Can support be added for this new OLED subpixel layout to the CRT-Guest-Advanced family of shaders and would it be a trivial task if possible?

Thank you. Also, has anyone encounter an issue where RA isn’t saving your shader preset? I like to use certain cores and with something like the GB/C/Adv; I got my content directory. It keeps not saving it, sorry for going offtopic.

shader - save presets - save core presets

I usually do it with save content directory because I love to use Sameboy with both GB/C cores. So, saving with core will have play GB/C games with either GB-DMG Shader or GBC shader, when I want it specifically want for GB/C separately. I think it just doesn’t want to save content directory for some reason.
