Did you do the same process in each John’s overlay? I am asking this because if you did (i.e. cropping the sides and saving), you can automate it in Photoshop. You record the process once, and then tell PS to do the same thing for every image under a specific folder.
Maybe you already know this, just want to help you out if you are planning on converting lots of overlays.
Here is converted arcade package for 16:10 users, overlays is from john merrit mostly horizontal games thanks to Kondorito for help’s.
Edit: For most overlays i recommend to use aspect ratio 4:3 and turn integer scale on, and i recommend crt geom glslp shader or crt lottes glslp shader for that curved look to fit overlay, and if needed adjust overlay scale.
Here is the john config files for games, put the config folder in retroarch folder, when you first time play game put overlay and than do save game overrides.
If it’s aspect ratio is custom on overlay play with custom viewport to fit gameplay area to overlay.
These all look amazing !! The overlays I’ve found all include the PNG and PNG.cfg files. But I’ve really struggled finding the detailed values required in the retroarch.cfg files per console system. Specifically the exact custom_viewport values which seem to be different based on the type of overlay and console system. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Hey @Orionsangel, thanks again.
Do you plan on doing more? I miss an arcade overlay.
Can you share the last overlays you created without the video border as well?
I figured Super Metroid was due, especially in light of the recent E3 announcements. Here’ s a Super Metroid overlay, I pulled character art from the 2002 Manga by Ishikawa Kenji (art).
I’ve been working on this realistic arcade overlay for weeks now and really wanted to share the result with you guys. It’s far from finished yet, but it shows what can be done with photoshop.
