Trouble getting any PSP title to run

Sorry for coming “out of nowhere” here, but this is one of the few posts with titles “straight to the point”.

I just got an RPi 3 setup with Lakka 1.6.9, and was wondering if it’s possible to get PSP titles running somehow. I tried Patapon 3 and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, and while both are shown on the Lakka UI, I only get a black screen where I can press X and get a sound. Castlevania Dracula X does work though, besides the intro video (before the initial options).

I followed the linked Libretro guide and copied contents of assets from Github into /storage/system/PPSSPP, but that made no difference. I tried both from the original maintaner’s repo and from libretro’s fork.

Is there anything special we need to do after including the assets? And, given the long discussion, is there anything special to be done to try to get some other titles running?

Standard questions first:

  1. Did you include the BIOS for the PPSSPP emulator? (See: http://www.lakka.tv/doc/BIOSes/)
  2. Did you try updating from the nightly builds to the latest version? (See: http://nightly.builds.lakka.tv/)
  3. Sidebar: Did you try the PSX emulator, PCSX ReARMed? (Yes, it does play the PBP Boot files from the PSP).
  4. Did you try the stand-alone version of the PPSSPP emulator on another platform? (There is a version of the PPSSPP emulator floating around out there which is causing some crashes).

See if you can answer these and we can help you out. Also generate a log to help the devs like gouchi (he can extract a ton of info from it and help you there, too).

  1. by BIOS for PSP, if I got it correctly, you mean the asset files from the Github repository, right? I mentioned it on my previous message (third paragraph)
  2. Alright, that solved the matter. It’s running fine from a nightly… Except for introduction videos (that are completely broken) and the performance, but I know I can’t complain about this one, unless I’m missing something from #1

Yeah, good luck getting PSP to run full speed on the Raspberry Pi 3 (just about any model): http://www.lakka.tv/doc/Hardware-support/.

That goes for just about any emulator software, too. Retropie, Recalbox and Batocera all run PSP like crap to be honest (N64 and Dreamcast have the same problem, due tot he GPU used on the Raspberry Pi 3).

If you have to have it be ARM–based SBC and want to run the PSP/N64/DC triumvirate at full speed, the XU4 and the x86/x64-based SBCs are the only ones that will do it.
