Shader options for a Shield TV

What do you reckon chaps? So far I’ve had success with any shader that doesn’t involve reflections pretty much. Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks

There are too many shaders. It would be better if you told us what you like, things as accuracy, sharpness, ntsc simulation, curvature… You could also post a screenshot of something similar to what you want.

I’ll be using curvature most likely paired with an overlay. I used to own a Sony trinitron with rgb scart so I do like that look but I’m not adverse to a bit of blur also. Guest advanced hd worked well and I know there’s options for curvature and many masks etc. I quite liked lottes on its own. I’m using a cheap 4k Samsung tv … it does have HDR but imagine low nits… I’d have to investigate. Just really any recommendations is what I’m looking for the shield hardware. Failing that I’ll just go through em all until I find one :+1:

Even uborder? It’s very lightweight.

I saw that but never tried it… is it another MegaBezel style shader?

It’s an alternative with less features than Mega Bezel, intended for not so powerful devices.

It’s only 2 months in development: Uborder shaders

Ahh brill thanks m8 for the recommendation :beers: is there a page for it on libretro forums? I’ll have a look now

Since you want curvature, sharpness and uses a 4K display, I recommend starting with crt-hyllian. Make sure to enable curvature and mask size to 4K. Another good option would be crt-consumer. They’re not heavy on resources, are modern and have concise options. Play a little with them and see if it’s up to your taste.

I’ll be having a mess with Uborder and the other shaders that got suggested when my missis is out tomorrow (only time I get to tinker thesedays :frowning:). I’ve got a few hundred or so Mr Retroarch overlays that I’ve modified to fit reflection shaders (removed any existing static bezel in the image and added back the glass). I used them for a game pack that I made a few years ago. Would you be interested in using them in Uborder? I’ll clear it with Mr Retrolust if you are. :+1:

That’s welcomed. Actually, I don’t distribute the overlay themselves, I only distribute presets that point uborder to them, so that they are loaded with uborder framework. The overlay work, is more from the artists (which I am not one, :P).

If the overlays use the same location to fit the game frame, it’s easy to make a single preser that can load all of them. On the other hand, if they don’t follow a pattern, you need to adjust a preset individually, which can take some time.

I made some presets that point to some famous collections of overlays in the oficial thread. It’s not hard, though may take some time. Now I’m more into the development of the shader features, which is getting complex and challenging.

That’s what I had to do… I already have the positions (for 1080p). So can change those to 4k and all will be good :partying_face::partying_face:

Well they’re available to you if you ever need em m8 :+1:
