Shader options for a Shield TV

Sorry I’ve not been on these forums for a while but great job on this shader fella … looks great!!

I’ll be having a mess with Uborder and the other shaders that got suggested when my missis is out tomorrow (only time I get to tinker thesedays :frowning:). I’ve got a few hundred or so Mr Retroarch overlays that I’ve modified to fit reflection shaders (removed any existing static bezel in the image and added back the glass). I used them for a game pack that I made a few years ago. Would you be interested in using them in Uborder? I’ll clear it with Mr Retrolust if you are. :+1:

That’s welcomed. Actually, I don’t distribute the overlay themselves, I only distribute presets that point uborder to them, so that they are loaded with uborder framework. The overlay work, is more from the artists (which I am not one, :P).

If the overlays use the same location to fit the game frame, it’s easy to make a single preser that can load all of them. On the other hand, if they don’t follow a pattern, you need to adjust a preset individually, which can take some time.

I made some presets that point to some famous collections of overlays in the oficial thread. It’s not hard, though may take some time. Now I’m more into the development of the shader features, which is getting complex and challenging.

That’s what I had to do… I already have the positions (for 1080p). So can change those to 4k and all will be good :partying_face::partying_face:

Well they’re available to you if you ever need em m8 :+1:

If you have a link or examples of them, I’d like to see.

Thanks, I’ll look into it.

I’ve seen that you made a lot of progress in your AIO software. I just didn’t find a place where to download all overlays in just one link. Looks like the overlay author post one per day since some years ago.

I’ll stick all the modded overlays in a folder and upload to gdrive.

Ok here’s the overlays, configs and shader configs as they appear in my retroarch setup:

One thing worth noting is that the overlay png’s are actually 4k but the .slangp files are for a 1080p display. Anyway i hope they’re of some use  (please credit Mr.Retrolust/Orien’s Angel/Arsinvictus if you do use them…thanks)

Thanks. I’ve got them. Looks like they’re an upscaled version of the ones in this repo: https://github.com/cosmo0/retropie-overlays-arcade-realistic

Though not as complete. Unfortunately, they don’t follow a pattern in window size, so it would demand a lot of time to adjust the shaders for them.

Yeah I understand that could be very time consuming. Better that everything is same position/size and wrap the backgrounds around that.

OTOH, this repo with artistic arcade overlays follow a pattern: https://github.com/cosmo0/retropie-overlays-arcade-artwork

And I made custom uborder presets to load them automatically based on the arcade game name. The presets can be obtained in this link: https://github.com/Hyllian/uborder/releases/download/v0.0.5/uborder_packs.zip

To get them working, follow these steps:

  • Download the overlays from the first link and unzip in this folder: Retroarch/overlays, so that the final path where the pngs are located are here: Retroarch/overlays/retropie-overlays-arcade-artwork/overlays/config/

  • The presets are inside the uborder_packs folder, which must be inside Retroarch/shaders folder.

  • Set Retroarch Aspect Ratio to Full. Enter Core Options in Quick Menu and set Vertical Mode to OFF (the preset will rotate vertical games automatically).

  • To use, load an arcade game and then load the preset ‘uborder_packs/retropie-overlays-arcade-artwork/auto-arcade-overlay-loader.slangp’.

That’s it. You can even override this preset, saving it to the Core so that it’ll load automatically when the game is launched. That’s how I use it.

:star_struck::star_struck::star_struck: thanks fella!! Much appreciated… I still haven’t had chance to get on the big tv to mess with the shield. It’s like being a kid again and having to wait till yr parents went to bed before you could set up yr console lol!

Struggling to download this: https://github.com/cosmo0/retropie-overlays-arcade-artwork

I’ll try again tomorrow

Just to be sure: Have you clicked the green button and then the ‘download ZIP’ option? It’ll get you the entire collection.

Yes m8… but it keeps getting part way through the download then stopping and saying failed. Probably something at my end.

Ok i managed to download the overlays (i think my internet was playing up). I’m using a portable version of Retroarch 1.19.1, and i’m finding that when i try to apply the shader i get a failed message. Here’s screenshots of the folder structure to make sure i’ve got it correct:

I’m using the fbneo core. Here’s the log:

[ERROR] [Vulkan]: Failed to load LUT “C:\Users\BOZ\Desktop\RetroArch 1.19.1\overlays\retropie-overlays-arcade-artwork\overlays\configs$GAME$.png”. [ERROR] [Vulkan]: Failed to create preset: “C:\Users\BOZ\Desktop\RetroArch 1.19.1\shaders\uborder_packs\retropie-overlays-arcade-artwork\auto-arcade-overlay-loader.slangp”. [ERROR] [Vulkan]: Failed to create filter chain: “C:\Users\BOZ\Desktop\RetroArch 1.19.1\shaders\uborder_packs\retropie-overlays-arcade-artwork\auto-arcade-overlay-loader.slangp”. Falling back to stock.

I think there’s a typo. The preset expects the ‘png’ inside a ‘configs’ folder and from your picture you put the png inside ‘config’ folder. You forgot the ‘s’.

Anyway, I just released uborder v0.0.7 along packs updated. I recommend you to update all.

EDIT: I’d like to apologize to you for the confusion I made. Just now I was warned that the typo was mine and not yours. In my instructions I said ‘config’ and not ‘configs’ as it should be. I’ve already fixed the instructions in the oficial thread.

Hi m8 no problem at all i should’ve noticed it myself. Great work m8!! Anyway all working now and i’m just having a play with the shader parameters…i see there’s quite a few options considering the simplicity and small amount of passes. Looking at this screenshot…is there any option to add a small black screen edge border to hide the feathered edge of the playable screen area similar to megabezel? I know i can use overscan in X and Y to remove the gap but i feel this looks a little cut off (even though its not really  ). Also is it possible to move the shine position? You can see in this screenshot it looks cut off at the top, If thats intentional then it’s not a problem i’ll turn that option off. Thanks for your work fella
